About
My first photography lesson came in a bag of chips, I was maybe ten years old. It was in the form of a toy prize in the bag. Finding objects inside of grocery items as a child was common. But this was different, it had instructions and a warning about exposure to light. I couldn't eat or open it so I asked my father what it was.
He read the instructions and explained that it wasn't exactly a toy and that it was a process called photography that was both art and science. He removed the aluminum wrapper and showed me a blank piece of cardboard. He then held it up to a lightbulb and like magic an image slowly appeared.
I am not sure what he said to me after that moment, but I was hooked. They were my favorite things art, science and a bag of chips. My interest in photography continued as I studied Commercial and Industrial photography at Ivy Tech in Columbus, Indiana and later graduated with a degree in Fine Art Photography and Art History from Herron School of Art & Design.
To this day I am still excited about the art, science and now even more so the technology of photography. My work is informed by both paths in photography and result in a process that I describe as fine tech. I work in this way by combining principles in fine art with digital still and time-based photography, audio and other media to produce content that documents and communicates essential ideas through various forms of visual communications.
My goal as a photographer is to produce meaningful content for my clients. By creating images that help to document, illustrate and communicate the relevance of an event, the quality of their products or the story of their family’s place in history.
